HISTORY

Where did it all begin?

The first camera was a camera that did not actually record images but it did project them onto another surface. The projected images were projected upside-down. This was used to create accurate drawings of real life objects. The first camera used a pinhole to let the image in and then was able to project it out. The first image that was able to be captured began in the late 1830’s in France. Back then photography was only for the rich and those who knew how to use the tools and were professionals. Photography did not become affordable to most people until the late 1940’s. Photography has advanced so much from then and so has the mathematics within it. Mathematics has helped improve cameras by allowing us to see the mathematics behind a lens. In today’s world almost everyone has access to a camera and is able to take a photo in some way. Now that we know a little bit about the background of photography we can look at the mathematics behind it.
