Significance and Application:

Learning about the math behind Spot it! was very significant to me because I grew up wondering about how the game was designed. It is rewarding to see how my mathematical knowledge and background helped me to understand something that always made me curious. Even though I wasn’t completely familiar with projective planes before studying this topic, my background in geometry and practice with problem solving really prepared me.

This type of math could be applied in a high school classroom even though projective planes are not something typically learned about at a high school level. This concept is easy enough to understand and would make for a fun warm-up or critical thinking activity. Having students learn about the Fano Plane and do an activity centered on it would be within the realm of their abilities and very engaging.
