With great power comes greater difficulty in factorizing the polynomial.

Definition

Pol-y-no-mi-al

The word polynomial is made up of two parts, the Greek word poly- (meaning "many") and the Latin word noman (meaning "term"). So it means "many terms". The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines polynomial as "a mathematical expression of one or more algebraic terms each of which consists of a constant multiplied by one or more varibales raised to a nonnegative integral power (such as \(ax^{2}+bx+c\))".

Polynomails are one of the fundamental concpets you learn in algebra that are used in future classes and even some careers. Polynomials is a very simple concept to those who are more advanced in math, however, it is something new to 6-10 graders. We often hear the phrase, "When will I ever use this?" and it just so happens that there are some careers that use polynomials and the quadratic formula. This website is meant to help people in all stages of math find something relevent and learn about the history and application of polynomials.
