Significance and Applications for Circles
By the formulas talked about above many things came about for us. We can use them to solve for arc length or the angle given the arc length. Arc length has many uses. One way using circles is used in solve problems is described by Angel and authors. This is called
the perimeter property. It uses circles in deciding the compactness of an area in relation to its
perimeter. The ratio of perimeter to area as an important attribute of geographic shape was recognized
by Ritter as early as 1822
(ANGEL, 2010). They do this to see how big an area is, and the amount of
space is being taken up. It is an interesting way to use circles.
Properties of Circles and their parts are used a lot in architecture and landscaping. In landscaping people want to know how much of a material they need to buy and sometimes there is an arc or a circle shape that needs to be constructed. People don't realize mediately that they are using circles and their parts to solve these problems. Think about a bridge that is curved it needs to have the right measurements before it is build and the arc length of a circle would be used to help solve this.
Circles are also used with scientist when they are trying to find the trajectory of an object. Then might want to find the path it takes or the length of it. They would need circles because the curve would not be straight. Another time circles would be used is when measuring circular shapes like craters. There are many other applications that circles help with solving problems for scientist, but those are a few.
The role that circles play in everyday life is more than one might think. Looking around one's house one can find many circular shapes. Or the house itself has some circular designs. Circles have changed are life by the way we can measure, and shape things like in architecture. Just that in ancient times when the wheel was created circles are bettering our lives with its many properties to help us solve problems and create many things.
