I am currently entering my final year at Utah State University. My academic career has been a long journey for my family and me, but it has definitely been worth it. I am looking forward to completing my undergraduate degree.
I began my studies at Salt Lake Community College where I earned my Associates Degree in Music. While there, I served as president of the choirs, assistant choral director, and participated actively in fundraising for concerts and trips. These experiences helped me to become a more dedicated student and prepare for more leadership opportunities.
I transferred to Utah State University with hopes of completing my undergraduate degree in Mathematics Education. The change in majors occurred while considering my employment possibilities after my education was complete and the need and demand for teachers in secondary education. I have always known I wanted to be a teacher and outside of music, mathematics was something I have always loved and enjoyed. Thus, the change was made and I am now close to achieving that goal.
While at Utah State I have had the opportunity to prepare myself for a career as an educator by working as a tutor and recitation leader. These wonderful opportunities have provided me with invaluable experience in helping others learn mathematics and develop deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.
In preparation for graduate studies and hopefully a career in higher education, I have also had the opportunity to get involved in some research with Dr. Brynja Kohler. Although the research has not yet been completed, the experiences I have been having have been helping me prepare for future research projects and the demand that will come with pursuing a graduate degree.
These past few years have been tough, but I have learned a lot, and I am excited to continue to learn as I finish my degree and enter the teaching profession. I look forward to beginning my graduate studies in Mathematics Education and using my knowledge to help students learn to love mathematics.
