Applets about tessellations:
TitleDescription
Escher Lizard Tessellation AppletThis applet shows that all things that tessellate start from a shape with angles that add to 360 degrees. In this example, a hexagon. You can see how Escher's lizard started as a hexagon.
Tessellation CreatorThis applet allows students to work with shapes with side length number 3-12 and decide which shapes tessellate. They will play around and be able to notice that Triangles, Squares, and Hexagons tessellate.h
Create a tessellationThis applet allows you to start with a triangle, square, or hexagon, and edit the corners and edges. As you make a change to the edges, the opposite edge also changes so that the shape will still tesselate. You can click "tesselate" to see the new shape you made duplicate a ton of times and perfectly line up each other.
Make a tessellationThis applet shows many 3, 4, and 6 sided shapes (not all regular) that tesselate, and which transformations (rotations, reflections, translations) make them tesselate. Then you can wrap the shapes even further to create cool unique shapes that tesselate.
Shape AnalyzerThis applet is not about tessellations. It allows you to insert different shapes and lines and measures distances and make comparasions with them.

Vissualizing TessellationsWebsite with videosThis website shows how all tessesllations start as triangles, squares, or hexagons. It shows videos of a tessellation that starts as triangles, for example, and they warp into a recognizable shape.
Blog post about tessellationsWebsiteThis website explains what a tessellation is and shows examples and non-examples of tessellations.
How to make an escher tessellationVideoThis video shows a student how to start with a square and cut and retape pieces of it to make a cool shape that will tesselate.
Which regular shapes tesselate?Youtube VideoThis youtube video teaches which regular shapes will tesselate and why.
Naming TessellationsWebsiteThis website gives examples of shapes that tessellate, and combinations of shapes that tessellate (octagons and squares). It also goes over how tessellations are names based on side lengths of shapes used in the tessellations.
