I grew up in Riverton Utah. In my growing up years, I was an avid soccer player and pianist. Now-a-days I spend most of my time in a classroom, whether as a student or in front of the class.
I'm currently a senior at Utah State University studying Mathematics and Statistics Education. I love being able to help people understand math. I firmly believe math is a necessary part of life. As such, I want to do my part in helping instill a love of math in the next generation. If not, at least a respect for the field.
I chose to pursue a career in math education because of a teacher I had in high school. His name was Mr. Frischknecht. He had such a passion for the field of mathematics. He always had a positive attitude that was extremely contagious. He approached mathematics in a way that made it applicable to different people. I never heard a single student that had him say a negative thing. It was always a race to see who would get into his classes every year. Even those that hated math wanted to take his class. He made you feel important and still helped you understand the concept in the process. I have wanted to be like him for as long as I can remember. He taught me that math teachers can both make math fun and get the work done that they need to.
