Introduction to Cryptography

Assignment 5

Applet Collections

Title Description
Rossman/Chance Applet Collection A collection of applets that illustrate statistics and probability concepts. The applets are designed to help students visualize and interact with statistic topics ranging from data analysis to specific probability problems.
Tile Art Applet Collection A collection of applets that illustrate tessellation and symmetry concepts. The applets are designed to help students visualize and interact with geometric patterns and transformations. The collection icludes applets that show the process of tessellation in art as well as applets that allow students to create their own tessellations.
WOLFRAM Algebra Applet Collection A collection of applets that illustrate algebra 1 concepts introduced at the highschool level. The collection includes 59 different demonstrations including demonstrations on two-step equations, completing the square, and multiplying a monomial and a linear polynomial.
PHET Interactive Simulations A collection of interactive simulations for mathematics and statistics. The applets can be filtered by subject and grade level. The simulations integrate virtual instruments such as rulers, stop watches, and thermometers to help students visualize and understand math in a real world context.
SFU Calculus Applet Collection A collection of applets that help students to visualize functions and calculus concepts. The applets are presented ina table with a description go the mathematical concepts covered by the applet.

Applets

Title Description
CrypTool-Online: RSA Demonstration This applet is a demonstration fo the RSA cryptosystem. It demonstrates the different processes involved in RSA encryption and decryption.
Wolfram Modular Arithmetic Applet This applet demonstrates the principles of modular arithmetic (a key concept in cryptography) using a visual and color coded representation.
Clock Arithmetic Applet This applet presents modular arithmetic in a different way than the Wolfram Applet. The idea is to use a clock to demonstrate the concept of modular arithmetic.
Math is Fun: RSA Tool This applet allows students to explore the RSA cryptosystem and understand the underlying ideas.
Monoalphabetic Encryption Applet This applet illustrates the concept of monoalphabetic encryption and allows students to build and break simple substitution ciphers.
