Applets and Resources

Applet Collections
TitleDescription
AP Calculus AB AppletsThis collection of applets from Geogebra illustrates a variety of topics learned in a typical calculus course. Topics covered include limits and continuity, derivatives, applications of derivatives, the fundamental theorem of calculus, and more.
Rossman/Chance Applet CollectionThis resource has a lot of applets related to statistics. Topics covered include such things as data analysis, probability, and statistical inference.
PhET Interactive SimulationsThis site provides fun and interactive simulations that are research-based for mathematics courses as well as physics, chemistry, earth science, and biology. Activities are categorized and can be filtered by both subject and grade level. Examples of simulations include fraction building, graphing quadratics, and area modeling.
Lauren K Williams Applet CollectionThis collection of applets features several applets that cover topics from pre-calc and calculus as well as more upper level math concepts from linear algebra and discrete mathematics. JavaScript is required to view these applets. Some pertinent topics for high school covered include polar graphing and slope fields.
NCTM IlluminationsThis resource is designed by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and provides standards-based interactive tools for students as well as supports for teachers. All of the lessons and applets are searchable by the Common Core State Standards as well as NCTM's principles and standards. Filters allow you to search by grade level as well as topic. Topics covered include Algebra, Geometry, Probability, and Data Analysis.

TitleDescription
Monte Carlo Approximation for PiThis applet illustrates how pi can be approximated by generating random points on a square and counting the proportion that lie inside an inscribed circle.
Reimann Sum Approximation of PiThis applet illustrates how pi can be approximated using Reimann Sums to calculate the area of a unit disk.
Buffon's NeedleThis applet illustrates how pi can be approximated by dropping a needle on a lined sheet of paper and determining the probability of the needle crossing one of the lines on the page.
Limits: Approaching PiThis applet illustrates how pi can be approximated using the area and perimeter of inscribed and circumscribed regular n-gons.
Leibniz Pi CalculatorThis applet illustrates how pi can be calculated using the sum of an infinite series, as discovered by Leibniz. The student is able to view how the value of the series converges to pi as more terms are added.
Representation of PiThis applet illustrates how the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter is equal to pi.
