Teaching Activity

Objective: To help the students remember the steps for solving for roots by creating a booklet that they can right what each step is and examples for each step.

Part A: What you need!

Make sure that each student has at least an 8.5 x 11 paper (the size will depend on how big you want the pages to be), scissors, and something to write on the booklet with.



Part B: How to make the booklet!

Step 1: Fold the paper hamburger style. Crease the edges really well.


Step 2: Still folded, fold the paper over hotdog style and crease well.


Step 3: Unfold the paper all the way. Now make a crease on the paper hotdog style.


Step 4: Unfold. Fold the paper once hamburger style again along your crease.


Step 5: Starting from the folded crease, take the scissors and cut down the center fold to the middle of the page.


Step 6: Open the paper up and then fold hotdog style again.


Step 7: Push the outside edges toward eachother until 4 leaves form.


Step 8: Fold the leaves to one side of seam and flatten the booklet.




Part C: What to write in the completed booklet!

Now that each student has their own booklet, have them write Roots of Polynomial Equations on the front.


Have the students write what each step is and either the definition of the step or an example of what to do on each page.
