Edinformatics This website has a variety of applets for middle school and high school math, including calculus, vector calculus, and linear algebra as well as some statistical applets. One thing that I think is useful is how the calculus applets, it provides links to lectures and instructions for using the applet. I like how there are a lot of applets for a calculus class because it sometimes it can be hard to illustrate a concept on the board. Some things that the Calculus applets help illustrate are continuity, integration using Riemann Sums, and secant and tangent lines.
Statistical Applets This website provides links to a variety of statistical applets. According to the site, it has enough applets that will cover most topics taught in an AP Statistics course. Some, but not all, applets it has are some statistical tests (i.e. ANOVA, Chi Square, and t-test), regression, correlation, confidence intervals, and goodness of fit. One thing that I like is the dice and coin tossing simulators. Using those will make it so much easier to teach the concept of long-term approach to probability.
Calculus Applets This website includes applets for single and multivariable calculus. Although the multivariable calculus applets wouldnÕt be needed in an AP class, the single variable applets that this website provides are very useful. The applets are very interactive, specifically one about differentiation. It helps to illustrate the relationship between slopes and derivatives. You trace out the slope of the line tangent to a curve as the base point is moved along the curve.
Java Applets This website provides applets for arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus including higher-level mathematics areas. I particularly like the algebra and trigonometry applets from this website. My favorite one is an applet that demonstrates the stretching and shifting of functions. It allows you to select a basic function, such as sin(x), cos(x), or xn and manipulate it to make it more complex (i.e. f(x) = sin(-2.1) + 3.7) by stretching or shifting it.
Interactive I like this website because while it does cover variety of mathematical levels, it provides ample applets for the lower levels of math. There is one applet that I like that is about functions. It helps to illustrate how functions work, like a machine; you put something into the machine and you get something out of it. The applets on this site include games, such as Order of Operations Connect 4. The student has to answer questions about the order of operations to earn a turn.
National Library of Virtual Mathematics This website is excellent because of the variety of applets it provides. Hosted by Utah State University, you can find applets for all grade levels and for a variety of topics.
GeoGebra GeoGebra is a free program, similar to Geometer's Sketch Pad, but better! There is more you can do with GeoGebra and I think it's more user friendly. One cool thing about it is that you can create interactive applets and post them on the web. I recommend downloading this software. The website also has a lot of resources available; examples, screenshots, and a wiki of different GeoGebra applets.
