Applets and Internet Resources

TitleDescription
Rossman/Chance Applet CollectionThis collection of applets includes real and theoretical data that are relevant to statistics. These topics include probability, scatterplots, sampling distributions, and statistical inference.
APPLETmathsA small collection of geometry applets. These help discover relationships of angles within a circle and the relationship of a graph and the nature of roots of a parabolic function.
PhET Interactive SimulationsA large collection of interactive graphic applets. The topics available vary greatly, including area, probability, vector addition, and fractions.
Interactive Math ApplicationsThis collection has a variety of diffferent topics ranging from different calculators to trigonometry and calculus. There are even some applets about how math connects to different aspects of life such as music and physical beauty.
Primary School Mathematics Collection - GeoGebraThis is a GeoGebra collection that has geometry applets. Some are targeted for learning geometry, and others are geared more toward a visualization of mathematics that generally are taught more numerically. Many of these topics are part of the elementary school curriculum, but some extend to middle school math.
TitleDescription
Gaussian Elimination AppletThis applet provides a system of three linear equations to solve using Gaussian elimination. You decide the steps to solve it, but the applet performs the simple arithmetic.
Matrix Inverse AppletThis applet is similar to the one to solve the linear equations. You are given a three-by-three matrix to find the inverse. Again, you decide the steps to find it, but the applet performs the arithmetic.
Add, Subtract and Multiply matrices interactiveThis applet gives practice problems for adding and multiplying matrices where the answer is not shown at first, but then it shows the answer and then walks you through the steps.
Linear Transformations and EigenvectorsThis applet calculates the determinant for a two-by-two matrix and shows the eigenvectors on a cartesian plane.
Matrix TransformationsThis applet shows how shapes can be transformed by multiplying them by matrices.

Matrices and Linear TransformationsWebsite with Interactive AppletThis somewhat interactive website describes the transformations on geometric objects done by transformation matrices.
Algebra - Augmented MatricesWebsite with Interactive AppletThis website walks students through the steps of using a matrix to solve a system of linear equations with an opportunity to practice at the end.
Introduction to MatricesPowerpointThis slide show gives an overview of what a matrix is along with how to use them to represent points on a Cartesian plane.
Finding the Determinant of a 3 x 3 MatrixVideoThis video describes how to find the determinant of a three-by-three matrix (along with a two-by-two matrix if the viewer doesn't already know that).
What is a Determinant?VideoThis short video gives a brief overview of eigenvalues and eigenvectors. It's important for students to already know how to calculate a determinant before watching this video.
