Applet Collection | Description |
APPLETmaths | APPLETmaths is a collection of applets to teach geometry, trig, patterns, and algebra in a visual and interactive fashion to visualize and interact w/concepts. |
Euclid's Muse | This collection of applets is used to demonstrate Euclid’s Elements with plane constructions as well as other topics like conics and clocks. |
Falstad's | The applets here are used to visualize concepts in math and it’s applied fields like physics and engineering. A cool example, Euler’s Equation, illustrates how a taylor series expands when given complex exponentials. |
Williams' | This collection of applets are from a math professor’s page and display concepts in classes from trig, calc, and linear algebra while providing games, algorithms, and programming applets as well. (Not as good as the Schneit’s, though). |
Mathematical Applets | What’s neat about this collection of math-solving applets is that for many of them, the method in which they’re solved is decided by the user. The specific formatting rules for entered data and functions are outlined and explained. |
Specific Applet | Description |
Rhombus Properties | Standard geometric rhombus properties are able to be seen individually and together in any combination on a provided figure. |
Rhombus Area | A rhombus can be rearranged to offer an alternative method of visualizing to then find the area. |
Nets for Rhombic Icosahedron | A 3D rhombic figure, the rhombic icosahedron, can be deconstructed into multiple different 2D nets. |
Rhombus Tiling Generator | A rhombic kaleidoscope! By adjusting the dimensions, speed of movement, opacity, and window size, it can be complex or simple. |
Penrose Crafting | Create tiling designs w/customizable patterns and colors while being provided w/measurement info should this design be replicated in the real world. |
Rhombus 45 and 60 Art | This allows rhombi w/45 and 60 degree angles to be used and overlapped to form flowers. Might seem useless, but math bouquets for mother’s day could be a hit. |
Specific Resource | Type | Description |
Properties of a Rhombus | Youtube | This educational video uses diagrams and colors to effectively describe the properties of the rhombus while addressing its relationship to other quadrilaterals. |
Songs About Shapes: Rhombus | Youtube | Caution: Annoying AND Catchy. This song is about rhombi and all the different places we can find them in day-to-day life, as explained by cute robots wearing argyle. |
History of the Rhombus | Prezi | This presentation recalls the modern definition and the etymology + discovery of the rhombus as informed by Euclid, Pythagoras, and Archimedes. |
Japanese Temple Mathematics | Website | Artifacts from as far back as the early 1800s have been found in Japanese shrines to describe combinations and properties of geometric shapes. This cultural contribution has been translated to describe rhombi along with them. |
Nets | Website | By the late 1800s, the Bellussera system was introduced as a vine-training method employing a series of overhead rhomboid shapes in an effort to minimize diseases while supporting subsistence farming and increasing sun exposure. |
