Dessert is something that a lot of people think about often. It is delicious and comes in many shapes, sizes, and flavors. One dessert in particular, apple pie, is an American staple. There is another type of pie, but it is not dessert. In the mathematical world, it is called Pi. Pi is probably a little less known than pie, but still famous, and on a certain day of the year gifts us with the food pie. This mathematical Pi is the constant irrational number that is the ratio between the circumference and the diameter of a circle. I guess you could say that Pi relates to making the world go round. This paper will present Pi, its history, background and many applications and the importance of this special number.
