A conic section is "the curve created when one cuts through a cone with a flat plane." (1) There are four different conic sections. There is a circle, which is created by a plane parallel to the base of the cone. The next conic section is an ellipse. This conic section is created by a tilted plane cutting through the cone. The next conic section is a parabola, which is created by tilting the plane more. The last conic section is a hyperbola. This is created from a vertical plane cutting through two cones.
