Applets
This page provides five applets and five collections of applets that can help teachers provide lesson plans and activities
for students that can help students progress in their understanding of the mathematical material. Each applet and applet collection
provided also includes a description of the applet/applet collection, a description of how I would use the applet/applet collection,
and a link to a relevant standard in the Utah common core.
www.analyzemath.com
Analyzemath.com provides a collection of applets for various mathematical content.
I would use this collection of applets to further the understanding of my students. In particular there is a section included on the
website which contains applets concerning transformations of graphs which could be useful in teaching students in Math 8. I have also
included a link to the Math 8 Common Core Standard which specifies the necessity of teaching students about the properties of rotations,
reflections, and translations.

Common Core Standard 8.G.A.1
www.edinformatics.com
Edinformatics.com provides a collection of applets for various mathematical topics.
I would use edinformatics.com to help students understand mathematical content and for the possible use in a class presentation.
I have attached a link to a Math 8 Common Core Standard which requires that students understand and can prove the Pythagorean Theorem which
is connected to the applet titled "Pythagorean Theorem."
Mathematics Applets
Common Core Standard 8.G.B.6
www.ies.co.jp
Ies.co.jp is a collection of applets which can be used in different areas of math.
I would use this collection of applets to help my students understand the mathematical material further. The link which I have provided
to the collection of applets connects particularly to a collection of applets dealing with Trigonometry and Trigonometric functions. This
collection of applets corresponds really well to the High School Common Standard, for which the link is provided, which specifies the
necessity for students to explain how the unit circle can help the students to make the extension from trig functions to real numbers.
Trigonometric Functions
Common Core Standard HSF.TF.A.2
Polygon Creator Applet
The Polygon Creator Applet shows users how to create applets and allows for various polygons to be created.
I would use this applet to help students understand how to create different polygons and geometric figures
given certain conditions, which meets the attached Math 7 Common Core Standard.
Polygon Creator Applet
Common Core Standard 7.G.A.2
www.saltire.com
Saltire.com provides a collection of applets. Specifically a collection of applets which calculate measures of angles of a triangle and sides
of a triangle depending on the information given.
I would use these collections of applets to help students understand how to find missing information for triangles. I have attached a link to
the High School Math Common Core Standard which states that students use the Law of Sines and the Law of Cosines in order to find the measurements
of angles in a triangle.
Triangle Calculator Applets
Common Core Standard HSG.SRT.D.11
Sine, Tangent, and Cosine of an Angle Applet
The Sine, Cosine, and Tangent of an Angle Applet allows users to specify the measurement of an angle and view the corresponding graph.
I would use this applet to help students understand Sine, Tangent, and Cosine functions. This applet would also help students meet the High
School Geometry Common Core Standard which states the necessity of students proving the law of sines and the law of cosines.
Sine, Tangent, and Cosine of an Angle Applet
Common Core Standard HSG.SRT.D.10
Slider Graph Applet
The Slider Graph Applet allows users to graphically visualize changes to a quadratic function.
I would use this applet in order for my students to get a better visualization of how quatdratic functions are graphed. This applet also
includes the source code that was used to make the applet, which I may use to create an applet of my own for my students to use. This applet
could be useful in helping students to meet the High School Common Core Standard which suggests that students graph linear and quadratic
functions.
Slider Graph Applet
Common Core Standard HSF.IF.C.7.a
www.slu.edu
Slu.edu provides an explanation of GeoGebra, gives a link to a GeoGebra help site, and gives a collection of GeoGebra applets.
I would use this collection of applets to help understand GeoGebra better and as another resource for students who need help understanding
various mathematical concepts. The Common Core Standard I have provided a link to corresponds to the applet titled "Linear Equations," which
is an applet that allows users to be able to manipulate linear equations.
GeoGebra Applets
Common Core Standard 8.EE.C.7
Spinner Applet
The Spinner Applet allows users to experiment with theoretical and experimental probabilities through the use of a computer generated spinner.
The Spinner Applet also allows for variations in the amount of sections in the spinner and the amount of spins in the experiment.
I would use this applet to help my students in their experiments with theoretical and experimental probabilities. This applet would also be
useful to help students meet the High School Common Core Standard which suggests that students are able to evaluate reports based on data.
Spinner Applet
Common Core Standard HSF.IC.B.6
Surface Area and Volume Applet
The Surface Area and Volume Applet allows for users to change the dimensions of a rectangular prism and a triangular prism and then view how
the volume and surface area changes.
I would use this applet to help students gain a better understanding of the concepts of surface area and volume. I have also attached a link
to the Math 7 Common Core Standard which suggests that students solve mathematical problems involving volume and surface area with two and
three-dimensional objects.
